For a long time, I looked at professional growth through the things we usually measure: experience, responsibilities, certifications, and the projects we deliver. And while all of these matter, I’ve started to believe that growth should also be about what we do with the knowledge we’ve gained, and the people we become along the way.
My professional journey has taken me from software development into project management, working on digital transformation, loyalty solutions, and software implementations across different markets. Along the way, I’ve worked with different teams, faced challenges, made mistakes, and learned something important: no matter how much experience we gain, there’s always something we don’t know.
When I first considered volunteering with PMI Lebanon Chapter, I wanted to step outside my usual professional circle, meet people with different experiences, and understand how others think and approach challenges. Because some of the most valuable things we learn don’t come from books or certifications. They come from conversations, shared experiences, and sometimes simply listening to someone who sees things differently.
What started as an opportunity to learn gradually became an opportunity to contribute.
When I joined the Chapter’s Website Technology and Content Support initiative, I started seeing an opportunity beyond maintaining a website. Why couldn’t PMI Lebanon have one of the most advanced and useful digital platforms among PMI chapters? Why should we limit ourselves to what’s already there when we have the knowledge, people, and potential to do more?
I know that ambition alone doesn’t deliver results. There is work to be done, challenges to understand, and ideas to turn into action. But that’s exactly what I want from this experience: to challenge what I know, learn from others, and contribute to something that continues to create value long after my involvement.
We spend so much time thinking about what our careers can give us. Maybe we should also think about what we can give through them.
