What’s Changing?
PMI introduced an updated PMP® certification exam on July 9, 2026, reflecting the evolving demands placed on today’s project professionals. The updated exam places greater emphasis on business alignment, strategic decision-making, AI, sustainability, and adaptive delivery.
One of the most significant changes is the increased emphasis on Business Environment, which rises from 8% to 26% of the examination. This shift reflects the growing importance of business judgment, strategic alignment, value delivery, stakeholder engagement, and organizational impact. The updated exam also incorporates greater coverage of AI, sustainability, and predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches, keeping the PMP® credential aligned with the realities of modern project delivery.
Together, PMI’s evolving project management guidance and the updated PMP® exam reflect its continued focus on keeping the profession relevant amid rapid technological change and increasing project complexity.
