From the Chapter

Words from the Board

A personal letter from one of the Chapter’s Board members.

Earning Trust, Serving Forward

“Serving forward means turning trust into meaningful action for others.”

Michel Medawar, VP of Administration

A phone call marked the beginning of a new chapter.

Following a thorough selection process, I learned that I had been elected Vice President of Administration for PMI Lebanon Chapter. My first reaction was not pride. It was gratitude.

The selection process taught me about our Chapter. The Election Committee looked beyond qualifications to consider alignment, values, and a willingness to serve.

Leadership within our Chapter is not simply granted. It is earned through the trust of members who believe in our ability to serve. I am grateful to every member who believed in me. Your confidence is both an honor and a responsibility that I intend to carry with dedication.

I volunteer because I believe growth is a two-way exchange. What I have learned throughout my journey, I now want to give back to the community that has placed its trust in me.

I bring to this role 25 years of experience in information technology, supported by PMP®, PMI-ACP®, and other IT-related credentials. As Head of IT and Digital Transformation at Arab Reinsurance Company, I have focused on turning complexity into clarity and using technology to create practical, lasting improvements.

As I approach the defense of my Executive DBA thesis on applying artificial intelligence to insurance underwriting and risk decision-making, I intend to bring the same focus on innovation, governance, and human-centered improvement to the Board. Through smarter workflows, AI-assisted scheduling and reporting, and better organized information, technology can reduce administrative friction and allow us to devote more time to our members.

My invitation is simple: get involved. Attend a talk, join a committee, share an idea, mentor a fellow professional, or tell us how the Board can better support you. Together, we can continue building a Chapter that empowers its members and strengthens our project management community.

Michel Medawar, EMBA, PMP®, PMI-ACP®
VP of Administration, PMI Lebanon Chapter

Practical Earned Value Analysis (EVA) (opens in a new tab)

by Mr. Akram Najjar, Business Technology Consultant

“Performance metrics become valuable when they support timely decisions.”

Key takeaways

  • Five core project measurements can generate 25 meaningful performance indicators.
  • Earned Value Analysis provides an objective view of project health by integrating scope, schedule, and cost performance.
  • Forecasting techniques such as ETC and EAC enable project managers to anticipate future outcomes rather than simply report past performance.

PMBOK® Guide Evolution to Eighth Edition — What Changed and Why (opens in a new tab)

by Mr. Hisham H. Malaeb, Portfolio and Program Manager

“Understanding why project management standards evolve is as important as understanding what changed.”

Key takeaways

  • PMBOK® has evolved from a strong process orientation toward principles, outcomes, and value creation.
  • Understanding why PMI introduced the changes is as important as knowing what changed.
  • The Eighth Edition builds on previous knowledge while responding to hybrid, adaptive, and increasingly complex project environments.

Leading Projects When Stability Is an Illusion: The Role of the PMO in Volatile Environments (opens in a new tab)

Moderated by Ms. Dania Chaar · with Mr. Omar Ellouzi, Ms. Riam Chazbeck and Mr. Nasser Ariqat

Organized with PMOGA MENA Hub and PMIJO - PMI Jordan Chapter

“The future of the PMO is not controlling projects; it is enabling organizations to navigate change with confidence.”

Key takeaways

  • Modern PMOs create value by enabling strategic decision-making, not simply enforcing governance.
  • Organizational resilience depends on balancing structure with adaptability in rapidly changing environments.
  • Successful project leaders continuously realign projects and portfolios with evolving business priorities.
